Catching Up on Films

With school finally being finished (and I do mean *finished*), I actually had a chance to watch a couple of films that I hadn’t seen from the last year. Let me preface this by saying that it’s been a real sparse year for film viewing since last summer. There are a number of reasons why, but needless to say, I haven’t seen much.

I got the chance to see both My Big Fat Greek Wedding and Changing Lanes this weekend and liked them both.

Changing Lanes had that Falling Down feel to it, in that the premise of the film rested on two men trying to achieve a seemingly simple objective. Throughout the whole film, they’re constantly getting in each other’s way.

Greek Wedding didn’t live up to the hype, but it was fun anyway. Romantic comedy with an ethnic flavor. I love Greeks. Heck, I love Italians, Brits, Poles, Turks … you name it. The film was set in Chicago, which is a major plus, and it did a nice job handling the ethnic angle with a certain amount ot tact. A surprisingly successful little indy film.
