The Stern Effect

Rather than re-hashing a lot of election stuff, go read my post over at the Rooftop Report where I guest-blogged on election day. There will be plenty to talk about in the days to come. No point in covering it all right now.

One interesting observation is being made over at FrankLog. It has to do with the so-called Howard Stern effect on the election. Earlier this year, Stern came out in support of Kerry and has been very anti-Bush in the months since. So the question now is how much did Stern help Kerry or hurt Bush? Apparently not much.

Based on some real rough figuring, it looks like Stern actually helped Bush increase either his margin of victory or his total number of votes or both in those states where Stern can be heard.

The one glaring problem I see with the methodology is that it counts entire states rather than specific coverage areas. I’d love to take a look at the countywide numbers and really see if there was any effect. Maybe I’ll sit down and crunch these numbers in a lonely moment. Either way, at first glance, it looks like Stern proved to be a non-factor in this election.

Game. Set. Match.
